Folk Architecture

Filia

Erdőfüle lies at the northern edge of Erdővidék, in the foregrounds of the southern foothills of Harghita. The settlement in the valley of the Kormos brook consists of three parts: Alszeg, Felszeg and Hámor. Alszeg has a street called Vietnam, which was given this name, because the people there quarrelled a lot. In the place of the Hámor village in the 19th century there was an iron foundry. At the time of the self-defence of Háromszék, Áron Gábor experimented with his first cannons here and moulded his first cannon balls for which the locals gave their church bell.

In the settlement, off the main road, many memories of folk architecture have survived. The 18th century double-roofed, arcaded Boda mansion is under renovation. In the village cemetery 150 carved headstones preserves the motives telling stories of the dead.
