Mikes Bath

The Csiszár Bath is located on the southeastern side of the valley, on the slope of Ciomatu Mountain. This is the latest developed zone of Băile Bálványos.

At the end of the 19th century, Csiszár Dénes (1857-1939) from Târgu Secuiesc, discovered the springs and bought the land with his wife, Török Róza and her family. They had built up the reservoirs and pools called: Csokoládés, Timsós, Vallató and Hammas. After the change of regime, the descendants of the Csiszár family got back the pools in ruined condition. The renovation of the baths and putting them in general use surely contributes to the boost of curative tourism in Băile Bálványos.

The mineral water of the Hammas Bath is greyish white and enriched with colloidal sulfur. This water is mainly used in the treatment of phlebitis but it proved to be competent in the curing of various eczemas too. In the ice-cold water the bather's skin becomes red, and then the sick part of the body becomes darker. The real cure is when the patient gently bends down, being careful not to inhale the sulphurous air, picks up a fistful of mud from the bottom of the pool and smears the sick body part with it. When the mud dries in the sun, you have to wash it off with the water of the Hammas.

The recommended duration of the treatment is 10 days. The mud mask should be repeated twice in the morning and once in the afternoon.
