Séra mansion

Ilieni

In the center of Ilieni, along the Main Street, a double roofed mansion, built in Empire style catches your eye.

In 1805 as a result of the arson, 67 farms were destroyed in the village, including the building which stood in the place of the current Séra mansion. In 1811-1812 it was rebuilt by Séra István (1769). A handwritten document, found in the globe of the fronton during the restoration in 1997, testifies this date. The mansion is no longer in the property of the Séra family. Between the years 1940 - 1944 it was used as a barrack for the gendarmes with sickle-feathered caps, and then, under communism, was transformed into a doctor’s office.

The Reformed Church from Ilieni saved the building from destruction in exchange of a common right, they built a patient care center for the village, and thanks to a successful application they renovated the mansion. Until 2010, on the lower level of the building the sewing-embroidering-weaving workshop of the Rustica-house was functioning, while on the mansard you were able to see a literary historical exhibition, presenting the life-work of Jókai Mór, Mikszáth Kálmán and Szabó Dezső.
