Apor mansion

Zălan

Zălan is famous for its outstanding fruit-farming and plum brandy (pálinka). The village, beside the Calvinist Church, boasts some valuable monuments, including the Apor mansion which was built on the right side of the creek. On this building-site previously stood a mansion-house, the current mansion was built in 1921-1922 for Apor János (1864-1930).

The mansions peculiarity is that his walls are made of enduring oak-tree, and it is resistant to the frequent earthquakes. The building’s main entrance opens from the north side, and the central room from the sunny southern part has a lovely porch. The rectangular building has five rooms, a kitchen, a pantry and a bathroom. The cellar can be found under the kitchen and the two eastern rooms.
