Between Moacşa and Cernatu de Jos, to the left of the highroad leading to Târgu Secuiesc, in the valley of the Dálnok, Tónya and Kenderes streams, there lies Dalnic, famous for its Reformed church and mansions.
On the side of the valley, on the wide terrace of a southwestern slope, in a picturesque environment, there stands one of the jewels of the settlement, the Gaál Mansion. The two-storeyed rectangular building was constructed in 1844. The main façade is divided by a pitched-brick vaulted porch lying on square-shaped columns, the stairs of the entrance as well as windows on the two sides. The windows have simple, semicircular frames. The layout of the mansion is determined by the porch and the building wings enclosing the dining room and the kitchen, consisting of three rooms each. The floor covering that survived in a few rooms of the mansion, made of large flagstones, as well as period windows deserve special attention. At the end of the 1890s the building was inherited by dr. Géza Borbáth’s family; his wife was member of the Gaál family. The mansion was nationalized in 1949, then after the regime change the descendants of the Borbáth family received it back but they could not afford renovating it, so they sold it.
The building was taken over by the Community Foundation, which deals with supporting talented children and announcing other applications aimed at children. In 2013‒2014 the mansion was renovated according to modern standards but also with respect to traditions and aspects of monument conservation. This was made possible by the donation of the most important supporter of the Foundation, MOL Romania. On the ground floor of the mansion there can be found exquisite dining rooms, a renovated salon with fireplace as well as a comfortably furnished parlour, perfect for relaxation. The knight hall in the cellar serves as an excellent venue for cozy dinners and drinking wine. On the floor four rooms furnished with antique furniture, supplied with separate bathrooms, serve the visiting guests’ comfort.
On the ground floor of the building next to the mansion, the so-called barn, two connecting smaller community spaces can be found, suitable for small-circle discussions and meals.
