Horváth-Deák mansion

Telechia

The Horváth family, which had the Nagyváradi and then the Teleki pre-names, came to Three Chairs as a result of marriage. They had great properties at Covasna, Boroșneu Mare and Telechia. The latter settlement became the family nest of Three Chairs, and this is why they added the name of the village as a pre-name.

In the middle of the 19th century, the building and the property belonging to it became the property of the Deák family through purchase.
The building was renovated remarkably in the past years. The gate that leads to the building is one of the most beautiful late Baroque style gates of Three Chairs. The whitewashed, walled gate footings are divided by half columns. Above the dominant half columns near the big gate, on the one side you can read the ANNO inscription on the frieze and on the other side the date of 1798.

The southwestern oriented house was built of stone and brick and it has an arched cellar system. The oldest part of the building is the small room with stave vaulting ceiling, which opens from the pantry and its walking level is much lower than that of the other rooms. This room might have been part of that 18th century regular, rectangular shape mansion to which a veranda was built with Baroque style gable on the main façade.

The building reached its present form during the modification performed at the turn of the 19th - 20th century. This was the time when the baking house, the kitchen and the bathroom was added to the rear façade and its windows were changed to big windows with stucco decorated framing, which was a characteristic of that age. The building is composed of five rooms and the biggest one of these is the dining room, which is 80 square meters.
