Szekler Land Museum

Since 2011 the Szekler Land Museum of Casin expects his visitors on a new site. Earlier the collection aligning the values of the Casin folk can be visited in the Balási mansion. After the mansion received a new function, Dr. Bodó Imre offered his house and reception for the exhibition of the valuable collection. The renovated, old carved gate of the house is a remarkable piece, built in the 1920’s. We can admire the old objects in a folk architectural environment, in a spacious parched house.

There are more than a thousand ethnographic objects collected over the years. The collecting began in the seventies, with the management of the headmaster and with the participation and the help of the community and the pupils. After the death of the founder, the small museum had a sad fate, they broke in into the mansion several times, the museum could no longer be visited, the former inventories got lost, and the death-watch beetle and the moth degraded the objects. The nurture of this collection was taken over by the Bodó family. With the help of Mihály Ferenc wood restorer, Szőcs Gazda Enikő curator, also collaborator of the Szekler National Museum and with the help of the local community, the objects were inventoried again, properly systematized and pest exempted.

The arrangement of the new place was not easy, for example in the museum there were not plenty of kitchen furniture so there remained the original furniture purchased with the house. They set up a loom in one of the rooms. According to the country house owner, the collection fits better in this house with porch then in the mansion, where the cart for example was placed in an upstairs hall. Here is placed in the barn, like in former times. However they cannot exhibit all of the objects at once, only one or two pieces, the rest are being stored in the attic.

The tourists and visitors are welcomed in a cozy, friendly atmosphere. The guests are expected and guided by an old lady living in the house next door.
