Salt Fountain

The Salt House recorded as a monument can be found in the lower corner of Lueta, supplies with salt not only the village but the neighborhood settlements as well. More houses like this can be found in the area, in Ălmaş, Corund, Sînmartin and Praid, but according to the villagers here the salt has the best quality. The Salt House dates back hundreds of years. It was built over the well in 1866, as it shows the script above the entrance.

In 1996 the building received a new roof. Once the settlement had a salt mine too, which however worked for a short time. Under the village is an extensive salt layer, which is related to the salt field of Praid. Somewhere underneath the village the salt field meets a water source. The result is the salt spring, out of which it is possible to scoop saline solution with big concentration. The locals take great care of the well, the salt they need is insured from here. The depth of the well is approximately 3,5 - 4 meters; his wall was carved from one single Turkey oak. The salted water is drawn from the well with two wooden spoons with 3 - 3,5 meters, called „shepherd”.

Allegedly in the water of the well from Lueta can be marinated the finest ham and bacon, in the past the locals used this water for almost everything. Severe order regulated the usage of the well in order not to be exhausted. Today the salted water is used for the preservation of sourness, cheese and bacon. The neighborhood bakeries use this well for the preparation of the bakery products. Until december the population of the village store away enough salty water for the winter. The well is cleaned up and the Salt House is closed until spring.
